Project 1: LatinXTech Non-Profit

The purpose of this project was to combat the digital divide, particularly the one affecting the Hispanic community. My peers and I decided to take action on this issue because Hispanic students make up only 7% of Computer Science majors and only 18% of the STEM field. We started by identifying the key barriers that Hispanic students face in pursuing STEM education and careers. These barriers included lack of access to technology, limited exposure to STEM subjects, financial constraints, and a shortage of role models and mentors in these fields. Our goal was to create a comprehensive program that addresses these challenges and empowers Hispanic students to pursue STEM careers.

Project 2: Personal Website

My motivation for building a personal website was so I could have a platform that would act as my online portfolio, showcasing my skills, projects, and achievements in a visually appealing and accessible manner. This can be particularly advantageous when applying for jobs, internships, or academic opportunities, as it provides a comprehensive overview of my qualifications beyond what a traditional resume can convey. Secondly, a personal website enhances my online presence, making it easier for potential employers, collaborators, and peers to find and connect with me. Additionally, the process of building and maintaining a website allows me to hone my technical skills, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Ultimately, my personal website is a dynamic and evolving platform that represents my personal and professional growth, creativity, and dedication to my career goals.

Project 3: Break Through Tech Labs

My deepening interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning inspired me to enroll in and complete the Break Through Tech Online Machine Learning Course, a comprehensive program designed to introduce students to the foundations of AI and its practical applications. Throughout the course, I engaged in a variety of interactive labs that challenged me to apply machine learning concepts such as supervised and unsupervised learning, model evaluation, data preprocessing, and algorithm optimization. These hands-on experiences not only solidified my understanding of core ML techniques but also sharpened my ability to work with real-world datasets, debug complex systems, and interpret model performance metrics. Beyond technical growth, the program emphasized collaborative problem-solving and ethical considerations in AI, both of which expanded my perspective on the broader impact of machine learning in society. This preparation has positioned me to take on a more advanced role in the upcoming Fall 2025 Studio Project, where I will work in a cross-functional team to develop a machine learning solution for a real-world client or community need. I look forward to applying the skills and insights I gained from this course to contribute meaningfully to the project’s success and further my development as a future AI practitioner.
